Street Ends

There are seven street-end parking lots on the west side of Embarcadero Road. To improve coastal access and pedestrian safety, the City’s planning regulations require these parking lots to be converted to pedestrian connections and relocated to other locations on the waterfront.

The Waterfront Master Plan will prioritize the street-end parking lots that should be converted first and consider interim options to continue to allow for limited parking until replacement parking is identified.

Key Considerations

  • Street End #1 would create a central public space and attraction for visitors walking down Centennial Parkway stairs and throughout the waterfront. Parking in this area would be removed.
  • Street End #2 at Pacific Street preserves parking spaces and widens sidewalk space, creating a more comfortable pedestrian oriented environment.
  • Street End #2 serves as a prototype for what could happen at Driftwood Street and Marina Street.
  • See Focus Area 3 for Beach Street and Dunes Street street end concepts.
  • No change is suggested to the Harbor Street street end due to site constraints.
  • Additional public parking is integrated into Focus Area 4 concepts at either a restriped surface lot or ground floor of a full service hotel, resulting in no net loss of public parking.
