State Parks Forward: Central Valley Park Opportunities Survey

California State Parks is launching State Parks Forward, a vision to create three new park opportunities and expand existing State Parks by 30,000 acres by the end of the decade.

As part of this effort, California State Parks is beginning the planning and acquisition process for three new park properties in the Central Valley:

  • Feather River Park (Yuba County)
  • San Joaquin River Parkway (Fresno and Madera Counties)
  • Dust Bowl Camp (Kern County)

Your input will help California State Parks better understand community needs, priorities, and opportunities for these park sites, including access to parks and open space, desired recreation and learning opportunities, and how these places could serve nearby communities and visitors over time. This survey is an early opportunity to help shape the vision for these park sites. There are no specific park designs or improvements being proposed at this stage.

The survey should take approximately 5-10 minutes to complete. Your responses are voluntary and will help inform future engagement and planning.

About the State Park Sites

Feather River Park

Feather River Park is located in Yuba County near Olivehurst. The site includes nearly 2,000 acres along the Feather River and offers opportunities for river access, habitat protection, floodplain benefits, and outdoor recreation.

San Joaquin River Parkway

San Joaquin River Parkway is located in Fresno and Madera Counties along the San Joaquin River. The parkway includes public properties along both sides of the river and will create expanded recreation opportunities and river access near a major population center in a fast-growing region of the state.

Dust Bowl Camp

Dust Bowl Camp is located in Kern County near Bakersfield. Also known as the Sunset Migratory Labor Camp, the site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the California Register of Historical Resources. This park opportunity could help preserve and interpret an important place connected to Dust Bowl migration and farmworker history.
