Project Status

The City of Shafter is making progress on the General Plan Update!

We are currently drafting land use and circulation alternatives that will shape how our community grows over the coming decades. This important work builds on extensive community input gathered over the past year and responds to demographic trends, market conditions, and state requirements.

Recent Activity

Over the past several weeks, the project team, General Plan Advisory Committee (GPAC), and Environmental Justice Working Group (EJWG) have been reviewing land use and circulation concepts:

What's Next?

Tonight: GPAC Meeting #4 (October 20, 2025)

Tonight's meeting (6:00 - 8:00 PM at the Shafter Police Department Conference Room, 201 Central Valley Highway, Shafter, CA 93263) will continue the discussion of land use strategies and circulation alternatives. The committee will provide input to create alternatives that explore different options for:

  • How and where Shafter should grow
  • Regional roadway connections that serve residents and businesses while minimizing negative impacts
  • Balancing state law, industrial growth, agricultural preservation, and residential development to minimize conflicts

The public is welcome to observe and provide comments during the public comment period.

Upcoming Public Engagement Opportunities

If you're unable to attend tonight's meeting, there will be several opportunities for public engagement in November and December, including:

  • Community-wide Open House - Review draft alternatives in person
  • Online Survey - Share your feedback from home
  • Stakeholder Meetings - Targeted discussions with community groups
  • EJWG Meeting #2 - Continued environmental justice focus

At these events, you can review draft vision ideas and provide input that will help shape the preferred alternative.

Details for these public events will be published over the next few weeks.
