What updates are being considered?
The City is considering updates to portions of its Policy Plan to address new state laws and reflect minor changes in mapping related to flooding and fire hazards, open space resources, disadvantaged communities, and truck routes. As part of these updates, the City is conducting outreach to inform and obtain input from the community.
A general description of the updates being considered is provided below.
The City is proposes to:
- Incorporate its 2023 Local Hazard Mitigation Plan and 2024 Evacuation Assessment by reference, along with minor refinements to policies.
- Evaluate rewilding opportunities (Senate Bill 1425 (2022)
- Affirm policies address the issue of extreme heat (Assembly Bill 2684 (2024) )
- Update its flood and fire hazard mapping (Figures S-03, Flood Hazard Zones, and S-05, Fire Hazard Severity Zones) based on new maps published by state and federal agencies.
The City proposes a minor map update to Figure PR-01, Parks and Recreational Facilities, to reflect the recently approved Ontario Sports Empire.
The City is exploring:
- Minor policy updates to communicate the co-benefits of open space for climate resiliency (and in the context of the Safety Element), and ensure access to open space is equitable in the context of environmental justice considerations (Senate Bill 1425),
- Refinements to it’s map of disadvantaged communities (Figure ER-01, Environmental Justice Areas) based on the most recent census income data.
The City is evaluating updates to its existing truck route network (Figure M-04, Truck Routes) to provide an adequate goods movement network while reducing exposure to sensitive receptors (Assembly Bill 98 (2024)).
