What is the Community Mural?

As part of the Shafter General Plan Update, we’re inviting residents of all ages to join a creative community art project called Shape Our City. This is your chance to help shape Shafter’s future—block by block.

Shape Our City is a citywide art initiative inspired by artist Thank You X. Residents will decorate a cube-shaped template to show their vision of what Shafter might look like in the year 2050. Think about how people will live, travel, work, and play—and bring your ideas to life through art!

🖼️ All completed cubes will be part of a public art installation and used to inspire the City’s long-term planning.

✨ How to Participate

✅ Download or Pick Up the cube drawing template here or pick up a printed version at a participating pick-up location (see below).
✅ Depict your original vision for Shafter’s future on the cube (black side up)
✅ Use any art materials or medium—markers, crayons, collage, etc. (artwork must be your original work)
✅ Make sure your submission is on paper and uses the original size and shape of the cube
✅ Upload a photo below or return the original to a participating drop-off location by August 5, 2025 (see below for drop-off locations)

People of all ages may participate. Multiple submissions are welcome. If you would like recognition for your work, please include your name on submitted artwork.
