Sonoma County is updating its General Plan to help plan for the next 20 years. Drop pins on the map for new homes, shops, jobs, or open space, and tell us why. The survey takes about 5–10 minutes and is open through December 2, 2026.

The General Plan is the County’s long-term blueprint for unincorporated Sonoma County – the areas outside city limits. It includes a Land Use Map that shows what can be built, where, and how much. We’re updating that map to plan for housing, jobs, services, and open space through 2050.

We’ve finished researching existing conditions and are now at step 2: hearing from you. Your input will help us build a few land use “scenarios” – different options for the future map – that the community will compare next year.

The shaded areas on the map are proposed study areas. A study area is a place where the County may take a closer look at what can be built – for example, more homes, businesses, or services, or limits on development because of hazards or infrastructure.

Being a study area does not mean any change has been proposed or decided. Study areas are simply the starting point for building scenarios.

Your markers help us confirm, adjust, or add to the study areas, and shape what each scenario includes. You can place markers inside or outside the shaded areas.
